YENDI-N/R : Stephen Opoku finances ‘The Africa 1 Challenge Cup’, Competition to Start Next Week.

Newly appointed CEO of Yendi Sankara Nationals [A Division Two League side] Stephen Opoku known by many as Africa 1 has invested thousands of Ghana Cedis to finance a football tournament in the Dagbon Capital, Yendi which is scheduled to Kickoff next week Thursday.

The tournament is been “tagged” ‘The Africa 1 Challenge Cup’, it’s meant to foster Unity among the youth, engaged the clubs for a while as they are currently in an off-season for the Regional Division Two League.
It’s also meant to unearthed budding football talents to showcase their talents to the rest of the World.

Ghana is a football loving country, the youth, elderly as well as women and children all die to go to match centers when there is a news of a football match in their vicinity.
Many even go the extra mile to travel miles away from their locations to watch matches either the Ghana Premier League, Women Premier League, Division One League, Division Two or matches involving the various national teams.

The people of Yendi isn’t an exception of this unflinching love for the game of football, the just ended 3rd Edition of the Dasuma Radio Clan Tournament evidence how touched the people of Yendi were to football, with thousands of people storming the the newly constructed Yendi Astro Turf Park to cheer their various clans up.

Africa 1, who is the sole sponsor of the competition has recently donated a 24 seater bus to Sankara Nationals, a division two club based in Yendi which he is now the CEO.

His love for the beautiful game has been a major reason he is investing so much resources into football, he has a Division 3 club called Africa 1 FC, a juvenile club and a female club.

Also, plans are far advance to construct an Astro Turf Park in Yendi.

Eight division two clubs will be competing for the coveted trophy, they have been divided into two groups with Yendi Soccer Heroes, Great Amphibians, Kuga Soccer Professionals and Yendi All Stars constituting group A, whilst Yendi Sankara Nationals, Yendi Gbewaa FC, Yendi Soccer Lions and Yendi Football United(YUFA) making up group B.

The tournament is scheduled to begin on Thursday, 13th January, 2022 at the Yendi Astro Turf Park with kickoff set for 3:30pm.

Games will be played on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday’s.

The Africa 1 Challenge Cup shall climax on February 6, 2022 with so many big personalities from the football fraternity, traditional rulers and politicians set to grace the occasion.
