WPL, Tamale Derby Report : Northern Ladies and Pearlpia Ladies split points on match day 4
It is always exciting to watch two teams from the same vicinity playing a football match between themselves.
Northern Region has two Women’s premier league clubs, Northern Ladies Fc and Pearlpia Ladies Fc, both in Northern Zone.
Women’s Football by far has taken the center stage in the region, developing and producing so many national players for the various divisions.
It is on this bases that more attention was giving to the Derby match between Northern Ladies and Pearlpia Ladies at the Aliu Mahama Stadium on Friday, 5th of February 2021 on match day four.
As expected, the match started with both teams trying to frighten each other with massive cheering up by fans in the stadium.
Both teams tried to maintain possession and also be discipline tactically in order not to concede an early goal.
Pearlpia Ladies came to opening the scoring on the 16th minute through Alhassan Basira who masterfully took a free kick straight at goal but her effort to get the opener for her side was denied by the wood work.
The combination of Jafar Rahama and Salifu Victoria nearly produced a goal for Northern Ladies on the 20th minute. But goalkeeper, Konlan Cynthia came to the rescue of Pearlpia Ladies Fc.
Several chances came the way of both teams but the solid defence of either side prevented the raining with goals at the stadium.
The camel’s back was finally broken on the 30th minute for Pearlpia Ladies when Yakubu Ayisha skilfully took a free kick which hit the goal post and the rebounds met Zuberu Hiqmah who calmly taped the ball into the net.
Jafar Rahama responded swiftly in the second half when Salifu Victoria sent a through pass to her. She hit the ball with her left foot straight into the net from 25 yards to make 1-1.
Pressure kept mounting on both teams till the match got to the end with one all (1-1) draw.
Tempers begun to rise but all those things are expected in much touted derbies. The referees had it tough but eventually the match ended with the two teams sharing the spoil.
This is the 5th time both teams met in the league but Pearlpia Ladies are yet to fine a way to beat Northern Ladies. Both teams are on the same points.
Abdul Rahaman Samira of Pearlpia Ladies won the NASCO MVP of the match.
