WPL : NORTHERN LADIES AND PRISONS LADIES SHARE THE SPOIL AT ALIU MAHAMA STADIUM, TAMALE.
It was a chance for Northern Ladies to win their first game in the second round of the ongoing Women’s Premier League when they engaged third placed Prisons ladies Fc at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on Friday, 23rd April 2021.
Head Coach of Northern ladies, Sumani Basiru-Deen went into the game with his usual 4-4-2 formation with the intention of redeeming his image
after his side drew 0 0 in their away match against Kumasi Sports Academy at Okese Park, Ejisu on Saturday, 17th April, 2021.
Jafar Rahama, a member of the Black Princesses Team came close to opening the scoring for Northern Ladies on the 4th minute after her long range short from the left flung came off the woodwork and grabbed by the goalkeeper of the visitors, Azume Adams.
Northern Ladies were awarded a penalty kick by referee Mansa Hommey on the 44th minute after Beatrice Akwaboah’s header from Fakiha Alhassan’s corner kick was handled in the penalty box by Prisons ladies defender, Janet Apana. Northern Ladies star player, Jafar Rahama stepped up with a chance to score her fifth goal of the season but her kick came off the woodwork once again.
The game could be described as a balanced one in the second half when both teams squandered numerous scoring opportunities.
The game ended in a stalemate with Northern ladies’ winless run continuing as far as the second round is concerned.
Northern Ladies will take on city rivals, Pearlpia Ladies in the Tamale derby on Saturday, 1st May, 2021 at the Utrecht Academy Park, Kasalgu, Tamale.
