Women’s Unity Cup, December 2021: Tamale Super Ladies FC Crowned Champions
Northern Region Women’s Division One League side, Tamale Super Ladies have been crowned champions of the December Unity Cup, 2021 in Savelugu. They beat FC Young Queens by 4-3 on penalties after the game ended goalless in a regulation time.
The Unity Cup competition is an annual tournament organized by the Women’s Club’s Association in Northern Region in every December to prepare teams and players ahead of the start of every new season. The last edition before the Covid-19 pandemic which was held in Kumbungu was won by same club, Tamale Super Ladies.
Tamale Super Ladies had been in superb form and was tipped to win the Regional Women’s Division One League last season but FC Savannah qualified ahead of them and Bagabaga Ladies.
They came into this year’s edition of the Unity Cup tournament very strong, winning all the seven matches. They scored 18 goals and kept clean sheets throughout the tournament.
The best Coach for the competition went to the team’s head coach, Haruna Najimudeen. Best defender, Osman Rafia and the Best goalkeeper also went to Tamale Super Ladies goalkeeper, Issah Afishetu.
The champions received a trophy, set of Jerseys, footballs and cash.
The 2022 edition of the Northern Regional Women’s Division One League is expected to start anytime soon.Tamale Super Ladies are favourites to win the league.
