WAFU ZONE B: COTE D’IVOIRE SENT GHANA PACKING AFTER 3:1 WIN
Ghana U17 national team are out of the ongoing Wafu Zone B Cup of Nations in Togo after losing to Cote D’lvoire by 3-1 on Tuesday.
Ghana Black Starlets needed a win or draw to progress to the next stage of the competition but Shockenly enough that was not meant to happen.
John Batigi scored the only goal for the Black Starlets but goals from Abdramane Konate, Charles Likpa Miezan and Cedric Franck Emmanuel Don was enough to see the ivorians dancing to the next stage.
Ghana finish third and bottom in the three-team group, behind leaders Cote d’Ivoire and runners up Nigeria who qualify for the semi-finals.
The Starlets opening match was against the continental rivals Nigeria which ended in a 1-1 draw.
This is the second straight times the Black Starlets are unable to make the final of the competition. At the last tournament, they finished as losing finalists.
Ghana are two-time winners (1995 and 1999) of the U17 Afcon and two-time champions (1991 and 1995) of the U17 World Cup.
