WAFU B: Black Starlets through to Semi-finals after 3-0 victory over Togo.

The Ghana U17 national team are through to the Semifinals of the WAFU B Championship in Cape Coast after a convincing 3-0 victory over neighbors Togo.

 

The Black Starlets suffered a 4-2 defeat to Nigeria last Saturday in the opening game of the tournament, their opponents also suffered 3-1 defeat to Nigeria meaning the Ghanaians needed to avoid a defeat to secure a spot at the Semifinals and the Togolese needed only a win guarantee them a place in the next stage of the competition.

 

The Black Starlets began the game on a brighter note causing their opponents a lot of problems mostly from the right flank where Appiah was, but failed to utilize any of their chances. Both battled it out for the first department of the game though the satellites were the better side.

 

After the break, the Ghanaians pounded more pressure on the opponents defense until when Appiah made a good run on the right flank and exchange a one-two pass with Salifu Abdul Razak and Subsequently made a nice cross to Pius Adua to tap in, which opened the scoring for Ghana.

 

Salifu Abdul Razak doubled the Ghanaians lead after a clearance from the Ghana defense, he made a good run and managed to trick his marked by moving the ball onto his right foot to cut in a low shot which went into the back of the net.
Captain Collins Agyemang, put the game out of reach by scoring from the penalty spot, after one of the Togolese defenders handled the ball in the penalty box which the center referee didn’t hesitate and pointed to the penalty spot.

 

By virtue of that results, the Black Starlets are through to the Semifinals hoping that one more victory will sealed a spot for them at the U17 AFCON championship.
