Uganda Football Association rewards U-20 contingent $160,000 for reaching Afcon finals
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations has rewarded the U20 contingent with $160,000 for reaching the final of the Africa Cup of Nations held in Mauritania.
The Hippos, who were making their debut in the competition, defied odds to grace the final but fell to Ghana 2-0 thanks to a Daniel Afriyie brace.
Despite the loss, the players had done enough to make the country proud and the Federation has stepped forward to appreciate them.
“Fufa has offered $160,000 that is to say $4000 to each of the 40 members of the Uganda U-20 team who were at the U-20 Afcon tournament in Mauritania,”
This is meant to motivate the player that despite their lose the country is still proud of them.
The Hippos were determined to qualified to the U-20 World Cup but unfortunately, it has been cancelled by FIFA due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The future of Ugandan football will be bright when this boys are well managed. They displayed a wonderful performance in Mauritania and will be looking forward to developing their talents in Europe which could enable them get call ups to represent the senior national team.
