U-20 AFCON : Ghana to face Uganda in the finals of the Afcon U-20 Championship.
The Black Satellites after their 1-0 victory this afternoon against Gambia sealed a passage to the grand finale of the Afcon U-20 Championship in Mauritania, they were waiting for a winner between Uganda and Tunisia, and now it has now been confirmed that they will be facing the CECAFA region Champions.
Uganda after a 0-0 draw with Burkina Faso won 5-3 on penalties shootout in their quarter finals staged. They progress to face Tunisia which was like a tougher match before kickoff, but progress to the finals with a comfortable 4-1 win against the Tunisians.
A hat trick from R. Basangwa and a goal from D. Kakooza sealed the win for the Ugandans.
They will now face the Black Satellites of Ghana, a country who have won the competition on three different occasions. In 1993, 1999 and the latest one was the famous 2009 U-20 squad, they won the championship and then followed it with the U-20 World Cup which was and still the only time an African country has done that.
Current Black Stars Captain Andrew Dede Ayew was the Captain of the group that won the U-20 World Cup in Egypt after beating Brazil on a penalty shootout.
Saturday’s game will be a tough game for both countries, Uganda lost 1-0 to Cameroon and the Ghanaians meanwhile also managed not to concede a goal against the free scoring Cameroonians.
Ghana will be hoping to have Abdul Fataw Issahaku and Percious Boah in fine form at the grand stage as they plans to add it to their trophy hall.
Coach Karim Zito will want to add his name into the history books of Ghana after winning the WAFA Zone B championship also.
But the Ugandans also got their star man in the person of Basangwa who is the first player to score a hat trick in the tournament so far.
The grand finale is scheduled to kickoff at 8:00pm
