As provided in Article 7 (4) (e) of the Regional Football Association’s Regulations, the Northern Regional Football Association on Sunday June 12, 2022 organized play-offs at two different venues for the following teams, Yendi Sankara Nationals FC vs Gmantambu Nationals FC at the Airforce Base Field in Tamale, Northern and also Tamale Soccer Angels vs Real Galaxy at the GHANASCO Park, as there could not be a tie breakers as stated in Article 7 (4) (a), (b), (c) and (d) in their respective Zones.
After the two teams both failed to record a goal during their first meeting, it was anticipated to be a very difficult match and considering the fact that there was some scuffle after that game, there was the need to provide much security to control their respective fan base. Sankara Nationals FC unsurprisingly ended the game as victor’s after a comfortable 3-0 win, with a brace from Hardi Tofik and another from Mohammed Musah. The two teams met in Zone 7 &8 on match day 4 which ended in a 0-0 stalemate. They both managed to finished with 10 points and needed one team from the zone to add to Yendi Soccer Heroes, who finished top of the zone.
The other play-off match was staged at GHANASCO Park, which was a fierst battle between two major clubs whose previous match before today also ended 0-0 in their Zone, and needed a play-off to break that tie.
It was such an entertaining game and fans who were fortunate to watch the game confessed how marveled and interesting it was.
The game ended 1-1 in regulation time of 90 minutes, and had to go for extra time of 30 minutes. However, there was still nothing to separate them after 120 minutes of play. Only penalty shootouts could be the final resort to break the tie. Tamale Soccer Angels eventually won the shootout by 5-4 after one of Real Galaxy players failed to score his.
Both Sankara Nationals and Tamale Soccer Angels by virtue of their respective victories, have qualified to the Middle League Stage and will have to tightened their belt’s well to avoid passing through such difficult and hectic paths as they will be facing more tougher opponents in that stage.
