Steadfast FC secures a vital away point at the Golden City Park
The Zebra Boys are on the verge of securing a maiden qualification to the Premiership next season after battling for a point against Berekum Arsenals at the Golden City Park.
The visitors came into the game sitting top of the table after last weekend 2-1 victory over Wamanafo Mighty Royals at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale.
The home team meanwhile had a shocker in the hands of B A United when they lost 1-0 to mark the beginning of the second round.
Steadfast FC had an impressive start of the game, making use of their attacking threat through Abdul Fatawu Issahaku. The Afcon U-20 MVP has been in a sensational form since his return from Mauritania.
He has scored 8 goals in just six games this season, and has been a threat to any club that faces Steadfast fc.
Fatawu after his numerous attempts to open the scoring finally gave his side the lead on the 35th minute when he brilliantly put the ball behind the net as usual.
The goal is his 9th this putting him levelled with teammate Alhassan Siisu and two goals behind Welbeck Takyi of Bofoakwa Tano.
Steadfast fc held on to the lead until the half time whistle was blown, but moments after their return to the field, the home fans threatened the center referee for whistling for an offside against their team.
That incident made the referee to delayed the proceedings as he did not want the repeat of the incident in Wamanafo some weeks back.
The game finally resumed after some interventions, but few minutes after the resumption the home side equalized through Ansu Kofi Patrick, a goal that puts him levelled with Welbeck Takyi on 11 goals.
The two teams battled for a win in the remaining minutes but both were resilient at the defense.
The home team defenders limited the movement of Abdul Fatawu Issahaku in the second half which really helped them to avoid defeat against the best attacking team in the zone.
The 1-1 draw means that Steadfast Fc will drop back to second place with 34 points, with their neighbors RTU climbing top of the league table with 36 points after their 4-2 victory over Kintampo FC.
Berekum Arsenals will still occupy 4th with Bofoakwa Tano occupying 3rd place after their 3-0 victory over B.A United.
Steadfast after this results will now turn their attention to another tough test against the high spirited Bofoakwa Tano at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on match day 18.
A win against Bofoakwa will put them in a strong position to securing their first qualification to the Ghanaian topflight.
Steadfast fc statistics so far in the league is not bad, 10 wins, 4 draws and 3 defeats.
They are yet to lose at home in the league, which has been a motivational factor going into this game.
But the team must look into their defense and midfield, especially now that they are finding it difficult to keep clean sheets.
Their game against Mighty Royals wasn’t impressive in the second half, as they lost control of the midfield in most instances.
