HRH Yoo Naa, Abdulai Yakubu Andani has called on the Ministry of Sports and the Ghana Education Service to reignite sports at the basic schools in the country to help build on the potentials of the children.
He made this known at his palace in Savelugu when the Northern Regional Sports Committee paid him a working visit on Wednesday, 26th January, 2022.
According to Naa Abdulai Yakubu Andani, sports was very strong at the basic schools in the past when even there was no development, now that there is more development, we expect the beautiful games to grow at the basic schools rather than going down.

“There is money in sports. The sports men and women are rich and there is the need to rejuvenate sports at the basic level, starting from the primary school” HRH Yoo Naa stated
“GES and the Sports Ministry must look at the issue of sports in our schools and more attention should be given to sports development at the basic level” HRH added
The chairman of the the Regional Sports Development Committee, Professor Seidu Alhassan called for the support of HRH to the committee to help them develop sports in the region.
He indicated that the committee cannot operate successfully without their support and blessings and that is the reason for the visit.

According to Prof Seidu, there are is so much talent in the region and the challenge is how to create the opportunities for them to grow. The committee is seeking to identify and develop the children with potentials to become better citizens tomorrow.
The Northern Regional Director of Education, Dr Peter Attifuah also called on parents to support sports development through PTA. He also assured the Chief that the committee will try its best to revitalize sports in the schools
The Northern Regional Sports Committee was inaugurated on the 1st of September, 2021 with the mandate of developing sports from the school level. The committee is also responsible for coordinating the district sports and also to organize annual sports festivals.
HRH Yoo Naa assured the Committee of his full support since sports has become a big challenge in the schools.
