Savelugu 2024 Peace Games: Yoo Ladies FC Crowned Champions

The Savelugu Municipal Football Association, in partnership with the Women’s Committee and the Municipal Football Association, organized a football tournament featuring six women’s clubs to foster peace in the municipality before, during, and after the 2024 general election. Yoo Ladies FC, competing in the Northern Regional Women’s Division One League, clinched the championship with a 4-0 win over Lalyogu Ladies FC from Taripkaa in the final.

The tournament was supported by major political parties, NDC and NPP, who contributed both financially and in-kind, providing jerseys, footballs, and cash. The closing ceremony, held on Sunday, August 11, 2024, at the Savelugu M.A. JHS Park, was attended by representatives from both parties, the Savelugu Chief’s Palace, the Peace Council, and other dignitaries.
In her closing remarks, Hajia Adamu Fulani, Chairperson of the Women’s Committee, called on the political parties to uphold peace throughout the election period, stressing its importance for progress. The political representatives affirmed their commitment to peace.
The event included a symbolic gesture of unity, with two young girls in opposing party colors to highlight political harmony. The National Security Council representative praised the initiative and encouraged similar efforts to promote peace.
