Savannah Region: Yagbon Ladies Soccer Club Outdoored
Yagbon Stars SC has outdoored its female side known as Yagbon Ladies Soccer Club
The ceremony took place on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at the Damongo Astro Turf in Damongo in the Savannah Region.
Speaking at the event, Executive Officer of the club, Mr Inusah Karim said the purpose of the club is to promote women football in the area
He disclosed that management of the club will extend its wings to various parts the region to get more and quality players to beef up the team
Mr Inusah prayed for the growth of the team to play in the Women’s League in future
On his part, the Regional P.E. Coordinator who doubled as Chairman for the occasion, Mr Mark Amadu Iddrisu popularly known as Urena expressed delight about the formation of the team in the capital
He revealed how his office struggled last year to get a female team to represent the region in a U -16 CAF ladies inter regional championship in Kumasi
He pledged the education directorate’s support to the new team and donated a football to the team on behalf of the Regional Director of Education
The Northern Regional Football Association Chairman, Alhaji Abu Hassan Rhyzo commended the management of the club for the initiative. He advised the players to be discipline and take their books seriously. Alhaji Abu highlighted on the benefits of female soccer. The NRFA Chairman donated two (2) footballs and a cash amount of Ghc 200.00 to the new club, Yagbon Ladies SC.
A friendly match was played between Yagbon Ladies SC and Larabanga Pro Ladies. The new girls, Yagbon Ladies won by two goals to nil
Pro Ladies also received a ball and Ghc 100.00 from the regional Chairman
A token amount was also dash out to outstanding performers in the game, the match officials and the media by Alhaji Abu Rhyzo.
Personalities who graced the event included, Mr Mohammed Tahiru, Chairman of Division Two League Committee of NRFA, Mr Mohammed Iddrisu Sumani, Chairman of Damongo District Football Association, Mr Brimah Bakari, West Gonja Municipal PE Coordinator, Mr Zakaria Sammed, President of Savannah Region Athletics Association Ghana and Mr Jalil John, President of Savannah Region Table Tennis Association
