S/R : Savannah Regional Athletics Association of Ghana Inaugurated

Savannah Regional Athletics Association of Ghana (SAAG) was inaugurated on Friday, 16th October, 2020 at the Eco Club House in Damongo

The ceremony which was opened to the general public was well attended by past and present athletes, Heads of institutions, representatives from security services and some national executives

In a welcome address, president of the association, Mr Zakaria Sammed outlined the things the executive committee shall do to develop, promote and enhance athletics in the region

He said the committee shall encourage participation in athletics at all levels throughout the region regardless of age, gender, religion or race.

According to Mr Sammed, Savannah region is a region with potentially talented athletes, but has however bemoaned that, athletes in the region do not train but only do when competitions are approaching saying the attitude does not produce the require results

The President said, his outfit will form athletics clubs to engage athletes on daily basis to bring out the best in them

Mr Zakaria stressed on the need to enforce all rules and regulations governing athletics sports

West Gonja Municipal PE Coordinator, Mr Amadu Mark Iddrisu (Urena) appealed to the executives to work extra harder to get athletes from the region to represent at the national level but pleaded for the necessary support from the national executives

He promised the GES support to promote athletics in the region

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer(CEO) of Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), Mr Bawa Fusheini commended the association for the wonderful organization and ranked it as one of the best so far

He urged the new executives to work assiduously to develop and promote athletics in the region and assured them of the national support.

Mr Bawa hinted of a technical training to be organized for managers of the sports but advised the executives to always use the constitution as their working document

A 5-member committee which was led by Mr. Zakaria Sammed as President and Mr Yakubu Mohammed being the Vice was sworn into office by Mr Bawa Fusheini, CEO of GAA

Others members of the committee include: Miss Hawa Baba Rolland, Financial Secretary, Mr Aburiya Dominic, Organizing Secretary, and Mr Karim Inusah, Secretary

Savannah Regional Administrator of the Ghana National Fire Service, Mr Opoku Ebenezer pleaded with the newly Inaugurated executives to always consider the security services when planning and organizing their their competitions

He says most of their men got into the service through sports, and that if competitions are organized for them, the association could as well get athletes from their sector to represent the region at national competitions

The event was chaired Mr. Kuntala K Ntoba, the immediate past Headmaster of Bole Senior High School
