RTU wins the McFam Damba Festival Challenge Cup
Newly promoted Ghana Premier League side Real Tamale United wins the 2021 McFAM Damba Football Challenge Cup after a hard fought 1-0 victory over Team McDan at the Dagbon State Senior High School Park in Yendi on Saturday, 23rd October, 2021.
The MP for the Yendi Constituency, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama in collaboration with his friend Dr. Daniel Mckorley who is the CEO of McDan Group of Companies organized the Damba Football Tournament to honor and project this year’s Damba Festival to the rest of the world.
Real Tamale United came from their fresh 4-0 Pre-season friendly win over fellow GPL counterparts Dreams FC. The team touched down in Yendi without the services of several of their key players due to fatigue and fitness. Yakubu Labandow who was expected to feature Infront of his home fans was missing due to injury.
This is the second edition of the tournament. Team McFAM won the first edition after beating Team McDan on penalties shootout back in January.
Dr. Daniel Mckorley, CEO of the McDan Group of Companies celebrated this year’s Damba festival in Yendi and also commissioned a School Block put up by the McDan Foundation.
The two teams engaged in a fierce battle and in the end, RTU’s 16yrs old former Berekum Chelsea attacker, Listowel Amankona stole the show with a fine header after the goalkeeper initially saved a shot from Baba Kushibo.
CEO of McDan group of Companies, Dr. Daniel Mckorley promised to donate one hundred (100) bags of cement to the Dagbon State Senior High School to continue their school wall building project.
He added that “Very soon the Dagbon State Senior High School Park will turn to an Astro Turf Park through the McDan foundation.
The MP for the Yendi Constituency, Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama also promised to continue in his “New Yendi City Agenda” which seeks to bring development into the Dagbon capital.
An amount of ¢1500.00 and a trophy was presented to the McDan Team while the winners, RTU received ¢2,000.00 and a trophy.
RTU expected to welcome Accra Great Olympics next week for their first Ghana Premier League match at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
