Pochettino Unveils Chelsea’s Transfer Strategy in Response to Christopher Nkunku’s Latest Injury Setback
Mauricio Pochettino has affirmed that Chelsea will evaluate Christopher Nkunku’s injury situation before making any moves in the January transfer market. The French international recently encountered a hip problem after recovering from a six-month knee injury.
Since his £52 million summer signing, the 26-year-old has made only four appearances for Chelsea. Nkunku’s debut against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup last month was followed by three subsequent games, but a fresh hip problem now sidelines him. Despite not training for the past 10 days at Cobham, the exact duration of his absence remains uncertain.
Chelsea had hoped for Nkunku’s return to address their goal-scoring challenges. With Nicolas Jackson at the Africa Cup of Nations, only Armando Broja, dealing with his own injury concerns in the past year, remains a center-forward option.
This situation may prompt Chelsea to explore the market for another attacker. Pochettino, however, stresses the need for discussions with sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley before making any decisive moves.
“In the next few days, we will assess the situation,” Pochettino told reporters at Cobham, expressing his concerns.
