Official Complaint Lodged by RTU Against Referee Antwi After Loss to Bofoakwa

Real Tamale United (RTU), a betPawa Premier side, has officially filed a formal complain with the Ghana Football Association following their recent Matchday 2 encounter against Tano Bofoakwa in Sunyani. The club has raised concerns about the conduct of referee Sefa Antwi, alleging that his questionable decision to award a penalty to the home team had a significant impact on the game’s outcome.
The club’s Communication Directorate released an official statement, confirming the submission of their complain and requesting an investigation into the referee’s performance.
“We wish to inform the public that Real Tamale United (RTU) Management has lodged an official protest against the subpar officiating of referee Eric Sefa Antwi during our Matchday 2 clash at the Sunyani Coronation Park, which took place on Friday, September 22, 2023, against Tano Bofoakwa in the betPawa Ghana Premier League (GPL).
Our protest, officially submitted on Monday, September 25, 2023, highlights a pivotal moment in the 86th minute when a contentious penalty was awarded by the referee, ultimately tipping the scales in favor of the home side, Tano Bofoakwa, resulting in a 2-1 victory.
The incident leading to the penalty decision demanded careful consideration by the referee, particularly regarding the safety of the goalkeepers, as an altercation occurred in the air involving an attacker from the home team. Instead, referee Eric Sefa Antwi opted for a penalty, seemingly to appease the home fans, who repeatedly called for such decisions whenever the ball entered our penalty area.
Throughout the match, the center referee made several questionable calls against us, seemingly in a premeditated effort to favor the home team and secure them all 3 points.
We urgently implore the Review Committee to thoroughly assess the match’s details and impose appropriate sanctions to prevent such detrimental occurrences from tarnishing our beloved sport.
Our dedicated fans will maintain their composure and determination as we face other teams in the betPawa GPL, with the hope of receiving fair officiating in all our future matches.”
RTU’s upcoming fixture is a home game against the newly promoted side Heart of Lions at
