Northern Regional Sports Committee Inaugurated
The Northern Regional Sports Committee was inaugurated at Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium on Wednesday, 1st September, 2021. The inaugural ceremony saw a lot of dignitaries in attendance. The chairman of the ceremony was Mr Nii Obley who welcomed all and sundry to the occasion. The Chairman also briefed audience on the purpose of the ceremony. The administrator of Aliu Mahama Stadium, Mr Obley mentioned that the purpose of the ceremony was to inaugurate the Northern Regional Sports Committee.
According to Mr Nii Obley, the Committee is to ensure a successful organization of Sports festivals every year and also perform other roles assigned to them by the board.

The committee members are as follows:
1. Prof. Seidu Alhassan (UDS) – Chairman
2. Dr. Peter Attifuah (Regional Director, GES) – Vice Chairman
3. Madam Salamatu Alhassan (Sports Director) – Member
4. Mr. Muazu Abdulai Choo – Member
5. Madam Suzy Fati Braima (Headmistress BiSCO) – Member
6. Alhaji Andul-Manan Baʒini (Headmaster Islamic SHS) – Member
7. Mr Apanye Sandow (Regional PE Coordinator) – Member
The committee members were sworn into office by Alhaj Inusah Abubakari (Regional Economics Planning Officer – Planning) on behalf of the regional minister
Speaking at the ceremony, the Committee Chairman, Professor Seidu Alhassan stated that, sports today has become the biggest business across the world and there are so many talent in the region. He added that, sports is one of the key disciplines that can help improve health, financial and educational standards of people.
“There is only one thing this our committee looks for, the maximum cooperation by the appointing authority. We need Justice, we need fairness and when these things are granted under my chairmanship, I want to believe that we can contribute to making sports more attractive and more sustainable in this part of the country” Prof Seidu added
Prof also added that, “In Northern Region, we have the talent and all we need is to identify them, motivate them and maintained them to reach their best potentials.
In 2016, the government of Ghana promulgated the sports Act, 2016 (Act 934) with the objective of developing, promoting and Management of sports in the country.
Section 21 of the sports Act states that, the Regional Sports Committee is to promote, encourage and develop sports throughout the Region. The committee is also to co-ordinate the sporting activities of the District Sports units within the Region. It is also to co-ordinate the activities of the District sports units within the Region in relation to the care, maintenance and provision of sports facilities in the Region. Again, it is to assist in the organization of the Regional sports Festival once every year, to prepare and submit to the National Sports Authority returns on sporting activities in the Region and to perform any other function assigned by the Board of the National Sports Authority.
The committee has a four year mandate to oversee football development in the Region.
