Northern derby: Relegation threatened Yendi Gbewaa FC to entertain Tamale City FC
It is an all northern affair this evening at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium as Yendi Gbewaa FC play host to high flying Tamale City FC.
Yendi Gbewaa FC has won only two of the twelve league games so far, which has them occupying 15th on the league standings with only eight points.
The team have not found their stand since qualifying to the division one league, their first two seasons was saved by the Anass No.12 expose and the Covid-19 pandemic.
And they still are following that same trend with unappreciated performances week in week out.
Their poor form has been attributed by many to administrative challenges instead of coaching problems, since the 2019 league season it has always been from one problem to another, which is why it is been rumoured the team will be sold out to some two southern brothers.
With this issues in the team, it will be very difficult to beat a high flying Tamale City side who have set their sight on qualifying to the Premiership.
But with the addition of some new faces into their squad, they could defy the odds to win against their northern brothers.
Coach Hamza Mohammed’s side is very much aware of the team they are to play against, and so should not underestimate them, as a “hungry man is always an angry man”.
The team has only lost once since beating Real Tamale United 1-0 on match day five at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
It was a 2-0 loss away to B.A. United, it will be very significant to note that Tamale City is yet to loss a game against the current top four teams in the zone.
But with their record this season of losing to underperforming teams, the game against Gbewaa FC could post danger to Hamza Mohammed side.
Tamale City FC are currently with 21 points which translate to them occupying 6th on the table, trailing leaders RTU with only three points.
The team this season has had issues with their defense, and since they have made some great signings to resolve that issue, should that work the season will be a chance for the Cityzens to make it to the Premiership.
Forward Sam Otis has been up in his performance, he currently has six goals and only trail Alhassan Siisu, Ansu Kofi Patrick and Welbeck Takyi in the goal scoring chat.
Should he managed to find his form again today, it will be a difficult game for Coach Danjuma’s Gbewaa FC. Isaac Mensah also joins Sam Otis in the City attack, and his great combination with him has resulted to him scoring four goals.
A win for city could see they move up from their current position, likewise to Gbewaa FC who currently are battling for a relegation survival.
