NE/R: Walewale AstroTurf Hosts First Match
For football fans in Walewale and its environs, Wednesday November 25, 2020 will go down in history. It marked the day the brand new stadium in the town played host to its first match under floodlights.
A select side in the town engaged Boison FC, a division 3 side from Bolgatanga in an epic encounter. The first of its kind, the event drew hundreds of fans who filled the mini stadium before kick-off.
The Municipal Chief Executive of West Mamprusi, Mr. Aremeyaw Somo Lucky could not hide his joy as he urged fans on with their applause. In an uncompromising game, homesters took an early lead the pacy and skilful Raphael Koomson, who made history by being the first to score an official goal in the stadium.
The game ended 5-1 in favour of the home side. Boison FC gave their all but still failed to convert a penalty awarded to them. The joy in the stadium was palpable as the young and the old cheered and sang together. Fans variously expressed gratitude to the government for building such an edifice for them.
