OLD PLAYERS OF TAMALE REAL REPUBLICANS HONOR LEADERS
Tamale Real Republicans, REPs is a club founded by Mr Karikari in 1972 (48 years ago) to nurture young Footballers and develop them into professional players.
The club dominated colts league in Northern Region for decades representing the Region in almost every Milo games. The club won two Milo games titles in 1998 and 2005.
The memorable year is 1998 when the club won the Regional league and represented Northern region in Koforidua for Milo games. Iddrisu Imrana who was the club’s captain was adjudged the best player of the competition, Agege won the best goalkeeper, Poruna won the Golden boot and the best coach award went to coach Alhassan Dawuo. The team won the final match on penalty shoot out.
Great players like the current head coach of Tamale City and former captain of the senior national team, Hamza Mohammed, the former captain of Liberty and now the assistant coach of Legon City, Coach Wahid, Shilla Illiasu, and the current assistant Coach of Tamale City Bashiru Joe Bar are some of the few players to have passed through the club.
Other notable players include Jaguar who won the best goal keeper in Kumasi Milo games in 1994, Lalabi also won the best player in 1994 Milo games, Asase, Taufiq Alolo, Fatawu Amingos, Mohammed Abukari Aquaye, Issahaku Rafiu Preku, Ziad, Abdul Rabi who is now a seasoned coach all passed through this great club.
Base on this, the Old Players celebrated the club by organizing a ceremonial match between the 1992-2002 batch and 2002 – 2020 group at the Tamale Kaladan park on Saturday 27th December 2020.
The players honored their coaches, administrator and supporters. Two sets of jerseys and ten footballs were presented to the club, 35 citations were given out, four smocks, three motorbikes and a cash amount was presented to various individuals for their roles in the team.
The longest serving coach of the club, Coach Dawuo, the longest serving Chairman of the club, Alhaji Joe Kadir and another Chairman, Mr Romeo, all went home with brand new motorbikes.
In attendance were the former Northern Regional FA Chairman, Alhaji Admond, the current Northern Regional FA Chairman, Alhaji Abu Hassan Ryzo and the renowned coach in Ghana, Coach Didi Dramani.
