N/R : Aliu Mahama Stadium Needs Refurbishment – Regional Minister to Director General of NSA

The Northern Regional Minister, Hon. Shani Alhassan Sayibu drew the attention of the Director general of National Sports Authority (NSA), Prof. Peter Twumasi to the need to give Aliu Mahama Stadium a face lift. The facility plays a very significant role in sports development in the Region and in Ghana.
Aliu Mahama Stadium is the home ground for BetPawa Premier League sides, Real Tamale United (RTU) and Tamale City FC, Malta Guinness Women Premier League teams, Tamale Super Ladies, Northern Ladies and PearlPia Ladies. It also serves the Access Bank Division One League clubs, Steadfast FC and Kumbungu Binbiem FC. It is also a place where Athletes, boxers, Taekpandow, and rest go for training and competitions. That shows how important the facility is to the people of Northern Region. The stadium is yet to receive any major rehabilitation since it’s establishment.
Aliu Mahama Stadium
Speaking in the official inauguration of the LOC for the National Cross Country, the Northern Regional Minister Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu appealed to the Director General of the National Sports Authority, Prof Peter Twemasi to turn his attention to the Aliu Mahama Stadium as the facility needs major refurbishment.
In his address, Alhaji Shani indicated that since 2008, Aliu Mahama Stadium has not reserve any major refurbishment and that aspects of the facility are yet to be completed.
“Let me also used this opportunity to appeal to Director general of national sport authority, Prof Peter Twumasi that since 2008 our stadium has not seen any refurbishment and I am also very much aware that certain aspects of the stadium are yet to be completed” Northern Regional Minister stated.
The regional minister also alerted the Director General of NSA on the need to have nice and beautiful conference halls, hotels and stores at Aliu Mahama Stadium as it will increase revenue generation to NSA and Ghana at large.
The Aliu Mahama Stadium is one of the three stadia constructed for the hosting of CAN 2008 in Ghana.
