MTN FA Cup Match Preview: Dreams Tamale vs Yendi Sankara Nationals
The game of football has evolved and lives little room to label an opponent as an underdog. Though that concept has not really been working recently even at the top level of European Football and even at the World Cup.
Notable amongst them was Iceland and Crotia showdown in the 2018 FIFA World Cup, Leicester City winning the 2016 EPL title and many others.
Dreams Tamale is currently playing in the Division One League in Zone One, they beat off stiff competition from Zanwara FC now Tamale Soccer Angels, STK Stars and their opponents in today’s game Yendi Sankara Nationals. The game today is poised to creating an unwanted history for Dreams Tamale should they let down their guards.
Yendi Sankara Nationals are now a bigger force in Northern Football, they managed to surpassed the first preliminary round of the 2017 MTN FA Cup before the Anass Expose distracted everything.
They have brought in seven new faces into their team to beef up their squad.
Experience midfielder Drogba has been brought back from greater Accra Global Eyes FC, Striker Alhassan Abdul Jabar also joined them from Yendi Soccer Lions, center back Abdul Majeed Abdul Karim also from Soccer Lions, left back Abdulai Mutala (Bimbilla New Era), Dramani Mohammed left back (New Era), Forward Yakubu Faisal (Gbalahi Eleven Jets) and skillful attacking winger Mustapha Hudu from Cedar Stars Academy whom many has prophesied as Ghana’s next Abdul Fatawu Issahaku.
Dreams Tamale has began the DOL season on a high note, beating Wa Suntaa SC 2-0 at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium and then making a trip to Wamanafo to play a 1-1 draw against last seasons big boys Mighty Royals. This results has put them in a pool position to claiming victory in today’s game and they have nothing to fear considering the team’s they have already came up against in the ongoing season.
But for Sankara Nationals, they are yet to play a competitive game since their 4-4 draw in the Middle League against Yoo FC last season.
But they have been engaged with fellow Division Two clubs in friendly games, latest was a 1-0 win over YUFA and then rapping it up with a convincing 2-0 victory over Yendi Great Amphibians.
Though Dreams Tamale beat Sankara Nationals by 2-0 in the Middle League, today’s game will be a different story as both clubs has added some new faces to their respective squads.
It will be a big cracker for either teams and we will be looking forward to that intriguing game in the Preliminary Stage of the MTN FA Cup at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
