Match Preview: Real Tamale United set to protect their fortress once again as they welcome AshGold to the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium
In football no matter the disorder, confusion, shambles a team faces, protecting your self from being defeated at home has always been a norm for every club not withstanding the circumstances as mentioned earlier.
Real Tamale United is known in Ghana football as a team that always record good results at home, not even when they used to play at Kaladan Park.
Not even when they come up against two of the heavyweights in the GPL Kotoko and Hearts of Oak, it has always been a norm for them not to lose at home, because that is where they play to entertain their loyal fan base.
RTU managed to win and draw in two of their home games this season, a 1-1 opening day draw against Great Olympics and a 2-0 win against WAFA.
But it seems the narrative may look different now, they face a bigger opposition today which is Ashanti Gold.
The Obuasi boys beat reigning GPL Champions Accra Hearts Of Oak 2-0 at the Len Clay Stadium, which makes them a hard knot to crack in today’s encounter against RTU. Their last two visits to the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium has them beat RTU 1-0 in the 2010/2011 season and a 2-2 Draw in the 2012/2013 season.
For RTU, a 5-1 shambolic defeat to Aduana Stars at Dormaa Ahenkro in their last encounter means they are yet to pick up a win in their last 25 outings. The last time they won an away game was on 10th January, 2010 in a 1-0 victory against Hearts Of Oak.
Not withstanding the current form of AshGold who has accumulated 7 points so far in the GPL, RTU still has a chance to upset the Obuasi boys. David Abagna Sanda was the top scorer for AshGold last season with 9 goals, his presence in the RTU team has been spectacular, prosperous and a total confirmation to why the team was in dying need of the mercurial midfielder.
Abagna has since found the back of the net 5 times, 2 goals away against Legon Cities FC and 3 goals against Great Olympics and WAFA respectively.
Coming up against his former club could be a bigger threat to them, only special tactics deployed could salvage AshGold from finding their way into the fortress, which the Pride of the north swear to protect with all their might.
As promised earlier after the game against Great Olympics by RTU head coach Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko, that they shall make the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium a fortress and visiting club’s will have to suffer as they won’t give a chance for any club to penetrate through them.
So RTU will be looking on to making it two home wins in a row, as for AshGold beating Hearts Of Oak means they have the upper hand going into this game and will be hoping to crushing the boys in Blue to death.
The game is set to kickoff at 3:00PM and we anticipate a 1-1 draw in this thrilling encounter.
