Man Utd and Chelsea issued Jadon Sancho warning about Erling Haaland transfer hopes
Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland could remain at the club until the end of next season despite being heavily linked with a move to the Premier League, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The 20-year-old has established himself as one of the game’s finest young talents, scoring 37 goals in as many appearances for Dortmund since joining from Red Bull Salzburg one year ago.
Haaland has been tipped to seal a big-money move to one of the world’s biggest clubs over the past 12 months, with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Liverpool among the sides to have previously been mentioned in connection with the youngster.
Manchester United and Chelsea are also said to be keen on Haaland, but any interested club would likely need to fork out a significant sum of money in order to secure his signature.
However, a modest release clause of just £68m will come into effect in the summer of 2022, opening the door for his potential suitors to pounce.
The likes of United and Chelsea have, however, been tipped to make a move when the summer transfer window opens at the end of the current campaign.
But despite the intense speculation surrounding Haaland’s future, Romano believes that he will stay with Dortmund for at least another season after this one.
The Italian journalist told Anfield Watch that the forward is happy with his current situation and is not pushing for an imminent move away.
“It is normal these clubs are following him and they have a relationship with Raiola [Haaland’s agent], but at the moment the player is happy and he is not asking to leave the club,” said Romano.
“He knows he has only been at Borussia Dortmund for one year so he wants to continue scoring goals, and playing Champions League and Bundesliga football is helping him with experience in senior football.”
Although a number of clubs may be keen to take Haaland at the end of the current season, Romano explained that Dortmund’s situation has been complicated by the potential summer sale of fellow young star Jadon Sancho.
It has been reported that the club could be forced into cashing in on the Camberwell-born winger, who is another United target, as a result of the financial havoc caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
“For sure, the plan for Borussia Dortmund will be a bit different in the summer because there are a few chances to sell Sancho, and selling both Sancho and Haaland in the same summer will not be in the perfect style of a German club,” added Romano.
“Only if they could have an enormous bid they could sell Haaland, as his release clause will be ready in 2022 and not next summer and it will be around €75m for Erling Haaland.
“So I also think Mino Raiola will push for Haaland to stay one more year in Dortmund and then leaving the club and getting big money.”
It remains to be seen whether Haaland will remain in Germany for another season or engineer a move to the Premier League over the summer.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a big fan of the youngster, handing him a senior debut as a teenager when the pair worked together at Molde.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are said to have identified Haaland as their top target, with money unlikely to be an issue for billionaire owner Roman Abramovich.
