North-East Regional Sports Committee Inaugurated


The North-East Regional Sports Committee was inaugurated by the Regional Minister on Wednesday, 16th February, 2022 in Nalerigu with the theme “Running for Peace and Unity”.


They also used the opportunity to launch the Regional Inter-District Cross Country Competition to select athletes for the upcoming National cross-country event which will be held in the Eastern Region.

In attendance were the Regional Minister Hon. Yidana Zakaria, the Northern Regional Sports Director, Madam Salamatu Alhassan, the Municipal Chief Executive for East Mamprusi, Hon. Hajia Rashida Mahama, the Board Chairman of National Sports Authority Hon. Seth Panwum Boyoyo and his deputy Mr. Majeed Bawa.


The North East Regional Minister, Hon. Yidana Zakaria in his address urge the athletes to focus on both sports and their Education since the two go hand-in-hand.


He stated that sports helps to keep an individual physically and mentally fit aside the financial benefits that goes with it.

Hon. Seth Panwum Boyoyo, the Board Chairman of National Sports Authority in his speech indicated that the current record is 29 minutes can be broken this time round and new record set in the upcoming National competition which will take place in Eastern Region next week if the athletes are focus and determined.


He further stated that, North-East Region will be the first to receive a Multi purpose Standard Stadium among the Six newly created regions.


The Regional Sports Committee members was sworn into office by the Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority. The Sports Committee is chaired by Mr. Daniel Janamal Duut.


The Deputy of of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Majeed Bawa encouraged the athletes to participate in more than one sporting activity to enable them to versatile. He also promised to equip the regional secretariat with modern equipments.
