Former Ghanaian and Asante Kotoko defender Harrison Afful has embarked on a new journey as the Vice President of Stars FC, a recently founded soccer club in the United States. Afful, a seasoned MLS player who clinched the MLS title with Columbus Crew in 2020, brings a wealth of experience to the technical aspects of Stars FC’s youth football program.

 

Stars FC, situated in the United States, is gearing up to welcome young football talents from Concordia, North Carolina, this upcoming fall season, with Afful leading the charge as Vice President. The club unveiled this development on Instagram, underscoring Afful’s extensive professional background, including his notable eight-year tenure in the MLS with Charlotte FC and Columbus Crew.

 

Apart from his achievements in club football, Afful boasts a commendable international career. He was a pivotal member of the Ghana National Team that secured a 3rd place finish in the African Cup of Nations in 2008, 2010, and 2015. Additionally, he captained Ghana during a friendly match against Congo and played a crucial role in the 2014 World Cup, contributing an assist that led to a draw against Germany.

 

The club expressed enthusiasm about Afful’s appointment, highlighting his potential to make significant contributions to the development of football in their region. Afful’s transition into a leadership position at Stars FC signifies his readiness for a post-playing career path.
