Hearts of Oak win double after FA Cup victory

Accra Hearts of Oak has defeated Ashanti Gold 8-7 on penalty shoot-outs to win the 2020/2021MTN FA Cup trophy for the eleventh time.

 

The fierce game ended goalless after the stipulated time. Ashanti Gold goalkeeper Kofi Mensah skied his kick when after his opposite number Richard Attah had scored.

Hearts of Oak started the game with so much force putting pressure for an opener, it took the intervention of goalkeeper Kofi Mensah to rescue Ashanti Gold. Patrick Razak and Benjamin Afutu both had their chances at goal but was denied by Ashanti Gold goalkeeper Mensah.

 

Ashanti Gold SC attacking force was wasteful upfront. Yaw Annor, Seth Osei and Amos Addai even though were very good with the ball but were disastrous upfront.

Getting to the dying minutes of the game Hearts of Oak Caleb Amankwah sent a nice cross into the 18 yard but Ashanti Gold skipper Richard Osei Agyemang calmly headed it out.

 

The second half began with more pressure from Hearts of Oak players on the Miners with hopes of opening the score. Daniel Afriyie Barnieh efforts for an opener for Hearts of Oak did not materialize and rebound from Caleb Amankwah was blocked.

The entire duration of the game failed to produced the winner as the fixture headed into thirty minutes extra-time to know the champion. The extra-time was another exciting moment for the both sides as they thwarted every inroads from each other to avoid conceding. It was marathon penalty shoot-outs which saw all the twenty-two players who featured taking part but goalkeeper Kofi Mensah’s strike from the spot denied AshantiGold SC from winning the FA Cup title.

Accra Hearts of Oak won the Ghana Premier League and completed the double by winning the MTN FA cup for 2020/2021 season.
