GNAT, Tamale beat Registered Nurses/Midwives Association, Tamale 2-0 in world Teachers’ day Friendly Match
The Ghana National Association of Teachers, GNAT in the Sagnarigu and Tamale Metro organized a fun game at Aliu Mahama Stadium, Tamale as part of the activities to mark the World Teachers’ Day Celebration.
The football match was between GNAT, Tamale Metro and Ghana Registered Nurses/Midwives Association, Tamale branch on Tuesday, 5th October, 2021. The teachers showed their class by defeating the Nurses and midwives 2 goals to nil.
World Teachers’ Day is held annually on every October 5 to celebrate all teachers around the globe. It commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers, and standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, and teaching and learning conditions.
The Northern Regional event of the World Teachers’ Day took place in Bole in the Savanna Region. Several teachers from all the GNAT districts in the Region received awards for their outstanding roles as teachers and as GNAT members. Among the award winners are two teachers from the Tamale GNAT district; Mohammed Fauziyah of Nyohini Presby Primary ‘A’ and Heyford Lem of Tamale Senior High. Both received citations, Television sets and cash amount.
There were lots of funs at the Aliu Mahama Stadium as teachers and football lovers poured into the stadium to witness Teachers and Nurses displaying their football skills.
The Representative of
Education Administration, Mr Andani was grateful that the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association honored the invitation. He indicated that Teachers and Nurses are rendering critical services to the nation and there is the need for coexistence between the two key and unique service providers.
All across the globe, teachers are celebrated on this day. UNESCO joint statement on this day reads:
“…”On World Teachers’ Day, we are not only celebrating every teacher. We are calling on countries to invest in them and prioritize them in global education recovery efforts so that every learner has access to a qualified and supported teacher. Let’s stand with our teachers!”…
A giant trophy was presented to GNAT,
Tamale Metro for being victorious.
