GFA Imposes Ban on Victory Club Warriors for Assaulting Referee in Wenchi

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken a decisive step by banning Victory Club Warriors from playing their home matches in Wenchi following a shocking incident of violence against match officials. The incident occurred during a Division One Zone 1A clash between Victory Club Warriors and WA Power FC, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
First Assistant Referee Nbangnan Festus Nyanja bore the brunt of the assault, allegedly beaten to a pulp by members of Victory Club Warriors. The referee is currently hospitalized, with reports indicating a severe hearing impairment to his left ear as a result of the attack.
The controversy stemmed from the home side’s (Victory Club Warriors) discontent with the officiating. Allegedly, they demanded two penalties be awarded to them, citing perceived injustices during their previous match against WA Power FC. The match officials, however, refused to acquiesce to their demands, leading to a shocking escalation into physical violence.
In response to this egregious breach of sportsmanship, the GFA has taken swift action. The association has instructed its Disciplinary Committee to recommend appropriate sanctions against Victory Club Warriors. The ban on playing home matches in Wenchi serves as a stern measure to deter such unruly behavior and safeguard the integrity of the game.
