Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Vice President, George Afriyie, has been disqualified from contesting as GFA president in the upcoming GFA presidential election by the GFA Vetting Committee.

The GFA Vetting Committee cited that George Afriyie’s application was unsuccessful due to his breach of “Article 13(2)(j) of the Ghana Football Association statutes, 2019,” as well as his “failure to provide the required number of Ghana Football Association members to support your candidature.”

The Committee also went further to provide detailed explanations for his disqualification and indicated George has three-day window to appeal this decision.

The disqualification of Afriyie from the GFA presidential race clears the way for Kurt Okraku to go unopposed in the upcoming elections.

The all important election, scheduled for September 27 in Tamale is likely to be delayed due to ongoing court proceedings.
