It was yet another exciting and joyful day for Tamale City as they managed to pip their arch rivals Real Tamale United at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in their MTN FA Cup round 64 encounter.

Real Tamale United is yet to beat Tamale City since it was renamed from Guan United in 2018, it has been a wonderful year for coach Shaibu Tanko’s men, but one of their biggest nightmare is their inability to beat their City rivals after three meetings this season.

Today’s game was believed to be a day the lord has made for the pride of the north, especially after beating Paga Crocodiles Stars 3-1 at same venue to stretch their lead at the top of the table on wednesday.

Tamale City took the lead from the penalty spot through their leading goal scorer Alhassan Siisu, everything was looking good for the Cityzens to carry the day but a “controversial penalty” as Tamale City fans described it, forced the game into extra time, it was Tamale City who emerged victorious in the shoot out with a 3-4 win.

Tamale City has again taken the bragging rights over their fierst rivals, and progress to the round 32 of the MTN FA Cup.

Coach Hamza Mohammed will now hope his sides rejuvenated form continues, to enable them gain promotion to the Premier League.
Real Tamale United will now turn their attention to securing their first promotion to the Premiership since they were dumped out of the Ghanaian topflight back in 2013.

Coach Shaibu Tanko’s men currently seats top of the zone one league table with 47 points, with Tamale City currently are in second place with 42 points but could be dragged backwards should the GFA ruled in Bofoakwa Tano’s favour in their match day 22 fixture against Kintampo FC which ended abruptly.

A third meeting this season between the two clubs with Tamale City always making it hard for RTU to shine.

An ugly day for coach Shaibu and his team, they have falling short again against their neighbors and just may be, one of the painful moments to have hit the team, after watching them progress to the round 32 of the MTN FA Cup.

A new day for Tamale City and one of their best moments since they came into the limelight.
They have conquered their City rivals and are in a strong position to conquering the northern zone.
