EXCLUSIVE: History continues in the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League
The 9th edition of the Women’s Premier League officially powered by Malta Guinness comes to an end after a very competitive season. It is time for playoff now, But who could have anticipated the same old dramatic finish.
In-form Hasaacas Ladies FC are now champions of the Southern zone for the fourth consecutive time since 2018/2019 and the eighth(8) time in the Club’s history having missed it only once in 2016/2017. The four(4) time Women’s Premier League champions will now play in the playoff match against their longtime opponent in that stage, Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC who have won the Women’s Premier League three(3) times. Hasaacas Ladies FC were crowned champions of their zone after thrashing Faith Ladies FC 1:0 on Matchday 18 on Sunday.
The Northern zone saw Techiman side Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC become champions of the zone for the seventh time and consecutively since 2014/2015 after ruining Ashtown Ladies 5:0 on Monday.
Hither to, the playoff match will feature the two sides again for the sixth (6) time this season and the fourth time consecutively since the 2018/2019 season. No team in the competition’s history have reached this stage more than these two teams and only the Southern zone’s champions have reached this stage eight (8) times, one (1) more than their opponents, who have now made it to this stage seven(7) times.

1. Hasaacas Ladies FC – 8
2. Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC – 7
3. Fabulous Ladies FC – 2
4. Lady Strikers FC – 1
However, only the playoff match will determine who becomes champion of the 2022/2023 season of the Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League. Hasaacas Ladies FC have won three out of their five playoff games against Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC, with the later winning two.
