New Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has praised the pressing and intensity of his team after the Blues won at Tottenham to hand him a first away win in charge.

Tuchel was impressed with a ‘big win’, although he admitted that he wants to see more ruthlessness in front of goal from players including striker Timo Werner, who has gone 13 Premier League matches without scoring.

Tuchel told BT Sport: ‘I’m happy. It’s not only about tactics but it’s about how we play. It’s how we live it.

‘[The players] lived it 100 per cent full power, full intensity – this is most important.

‘We never lost belief, the faith or the courage to press up high. We never got too passive, too deep.

‘We pushed and we had many one versus ones to isolate the opponent and not give options.

‘For that, you have to be brave and we were brave and we were the winners and this is deserved and feels great.’

Despite dominating the game, Tuchel was less impressed by Chelsea’s second-half display as they struggled to trouble home goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.

He said: ‘In the second half we lost a bit of confidence. In football, there are many ways to have a good performance and if we have to suffer, we have to suffer.

‘[We need] a bit more killer instinct, a bit more aggressiveness in the box towards the goal. A bit more killer instinct would have been nice.

‘In the first 15 minutes of the second half and maybe during the whole match, there were chances where we lacked a bit of determination in the box and with the last touch.

‘But it’s like this and it’s something to improve on. It’s a big win in an away game and I’m very happy.’
