Zone one of the division one league this season has not been able to find a true leader of the league table as it has been wabbling from one team to another.
This week fixtures can in a way give us a clear picture as to which teams will be able to compete for the Premiership slot to the end. The top four teams of the zone are clashing on this mid-week fixtures, with the Brong Ahafo teams all playing away to their counterparts in the Northern Region.
On Wednesday Coach Hamza Mohammed’s Tamale City will be at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium to play current leaders Bofoakwa Tano. It is only three points that are separating the two teams, the game is expected to be tough as both teams will be in need of a win to extend their dominance over the other, and to also show how serious they are towards qualifying for the Premier League.
Tamale City had a poor start of the league, recording four points in four games, but after their win against City rivals Real Tamale United it has rejuvenated the teams spirit, and they are yet to lose a game afterwards. With their last game a draw at the Golden City Park against Berekum Arsenals.
Bofoakwa also are a dominant force in the league so far, had it not been because of their lose against Mighty Royals on match day 8, they will have now been leading by four points.
Welbeck Takyi will be hoping to continue his fine form when they travel to play the City boys on Wednesday.
The striker has already scored seven goals so far only Alhassan Siisu of Tamale Steadfast has managed to reached his feat.
Another tough game this week will be a clash between Real Tamale United and second placed team Berekum Arsenals. Berekum Arsenals started the league in a sensational form, playing an unbeaten until their match day eight 1-0 lose to Young Apostles. They couldn’t do better in their next game also as they drew 1-1 against a rejuvenated Tamale City FC .
This performance has caused a serious setback in their team and can regain their rhythm if they managed to beat Real Tamale United on Thursday.
Real Tamale United also started the league in a brighter way, with three wins in three matches. They then lost 1-0 against their City rivals Tamale City FC, at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale on match day four. They lost their last game away to Mighty Royals who are also doing well in the league with only a point behind them now.
Coach Shaibu Tanko’s men will have to up their game this week in order to accommodate the striking force of Arsenals. The Tamale club has not been doing well interms of scoring and this is something the coach will have to focus his attention on, knowing that a defeat on Thursday will live them hopeless in their bid to return back to the Premiership.
They will also hope hope to welcome back their striker, Yakubu Labandow who since his goal on match day one against Kintampo FC has not been able to play for them due to the injury he sustained in that game.
The coach will be hoping the young man returns in a good form on Thursday.
There’s also been some signings for his team and could have a positive impact on how they perform in the league.
It is a week like no other as the table will find it’s true leader after this mouth watering fixtures are done.
This four clubs especially Tamale City FC has been adjudged by many as the more favourite side to win this league, but a more determined sides like RTU, Bofoakwa Tano and Berekum Arsenals are poised to caused them troubles in going forward.
Both teams will want to avoid a defeat in order to still keep them competing for the only slot in the Zone. The visiting clubs will be okay with a draw, while the home clubs will need a win considering their home advantage.
