DOL: Steadfast secures a 2-1 victory against Young Apostles to go top of the league table
A hard earned victory against Young Apostles has Steadfast fc going top of the league table for the first time this season.
Two goals from defender Habilu helped Coach Mohammed Gargo’s side come from behind to earn themselves all three points at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium today.
Steadfast fc has been in a sensational form lately, even in the absence of their star man, the current U-20 super star Abdul Fataw Issahaku.
Knowing the current form of Young Apostles, the game was not to be taking lightly, and it really proves to be true as both teams failed to score in the first half.
The early exchanges of the second half has Young Apostles causing much problems to the Steadfast fc defense until they opened the scoring on the 52nd minute.
With the home side down by a goal and knowing that a win could send them to top of the table, they begin to grow in the game as they pushed forward to attack for a goal. Their sacrifice paid off as they were awarded a penalty on the 76th minute which was calmly taken by defender Habilu Habalua Kanute to draw Steadfast fc levelled.
With the scores levelled, Steadfast still push for a win as they outplayed their opponents, Habilu came to the rescue again on the 80th minute when another penalty was awarded to his team, which he professionally took and scored to head Steadfast in front.
The game grew heated as Young Apostles also pushed to get a goal to atleast live with a draw, but Mohammed Gargo’s side were well determined to win the game, and with their good defensive showings, they fought hard to earn the three vital points which helped them to climb to the first position on the league standings.
Steadfast will hope to maintain this performance as they aim to qualify for the Premiership.
The team will also hope to have Alhassan Siisu back to scoring form as the current joint top scorer has not been able to score since his hat trick against Kintampo FC at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium which helped him to win the MVP award in that game.
Gargo’s men lead on the table could be stampeded tomorrow should Real Tamale United managed to beat Bofoakwa Tano away from home.
