DOL: Steadfast fc tops the table after a mighty victory against Mighty Royals
A mighty performance with a mighty defeat to Wamanafo Mighty Royals today at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium sends Tamale Steadfast Fc to the top of the Zone One League table for the second time this season.
Steadfast who ended the first round in second place needed a win to keep their chances of qualifying to the Premiership. The cry for a Premiership return by the northern teams have been in the minds of football fans and the whole football fraternity in the Northern Region since 2013.
Mohammed Gargo’s men in their desperate attempt to win the game mounted an early pressure on the Mighty Royals defense which really paid off when a free kick was awarded in a tight angle. With Steadfast fc sensational and inform forward Abdul Fataw Issahaku in the lineup it was expected that he will be in a position to take the kick. Just as expected, with his powerful left foot, he fired a shot which went direct into the back of the net from that tight angle on the 3rd minute mark.
His goal on the third minute was his seventh goal of the season in just six games.
After his opener, it took Steadfast just 14 minutes to double their lead when Abdul Fatawu was able to beat his marker in the eighteenth yard box and made a low cross for his team mate Alhassan Siisu to tap in.
That was Alhassan Siisu’s 9th goal in the campaign, chasing Welberk Tetyi and Ansu Partrick for the goal scoring gong.
After Steadfast early two goals, Mighty Royals did everything to frustrate and anger the home side fans but to no avail. On the 43rd minute mark a free kick for the visitors close to the 18 yard box proved vital resulting in a consolation for Mighty Royals.
Both teams came back strongly in the second department of the game but the discipline and the composure of the home side won them all the 3 maximum points.
The win saw them climb to the summit of the league table after Berekum Arsenals were beaten 0-1 by B.A United at the Sunyani Coronation Park.
Elsewhere Real Tamale United is expected to be rewarded 3 points and 3 goals after Techiman City failed to show up in Wa.
Steadfast fc will now top the table for this weekend before making a trip to Berekum for a top of the table clash with Berekum Arsenals at the Sunyani Coronation Park on match week 17
