Northern Region is poised for a representation in the 2021/2022 Ghana Premier League. After Real Tamale United exited from the Ghana Premier League in 2013, Northern Region has not got a single club in the Ghanaian top flight football, making it a worry to all football enthusiasts in the region. This made three out of the four clubs from the region to put up extra ordinary performances in the league especially in the first round.

The current top four clubs have three clubs from Northern Region who are all on 30 points each. They trail leaders Berekum Arsenals with just a point.
With such a wonderful performances from the players in those clubs. We take a look at selecting the best eleven players out of those numerous players.

Reporters and readers of one of the leading sports websites in Northern Region, www.sportsmrnews.com keenly followed the first round of the league and have come out with their best team of the first round for the four clubs in Northern Region, namely ; RTU, Steadfast Fc Tamale City and Yendi Gbewaa Fc. Note that the selection is based on opinions!

Below are the players that made the best team of first round.

First on our list is Mohammed Abdul Ganiu, the goal keeper of Steadfast fc is by far best goalkeeper in the first round. He conceded just 8 goals from the the 15 matches played in the first round with 6 clean sheets to his credit. His defensive organizational skills has been outstanding.

The back three are: Habilu Kanute (Steadfast) – RB, Fuseini Mustapha (RTU) – LB and Amoah (Tamale City) – CB.

RTU Fuseini Mustapha has been outstanding throughout the first round on the left back position. His impact has produced some wonderful results for RTU. He one of the few players to have managed to keep their positions in Coach Shaibu Ibrahim Tanco rotating squad.

Habilu Kanute Alhassan is one of the famous players whose name can’t be left out. He has played every match in the first round scoring 2 goals.

Kofi Nketia is one of Coach Hamza Mohammed’s favourites, he is the rock of Tamale City defense. He is arguably one of the best center backs in the league so far. His ability to read the opponents move before making a tackle has made him a difficult opponent for opposition forward.

In midfield, Mohammed Sheriff, Haruna Abdul Ganiu, Mohammed Sadat and Ronald Frimpong

Mohammed Sadat for sure exclusion from this list will have raised some question marks. The RTU midfielder has been in scintillating form all season, producing four goals to his name. He is a spotkick specialist, his impact in the team midfield can’t be underestimated.

Another great player making the list is Steadfast Fc midfielder Haruna Abdul Ganiu, his ability to deliver passes to his teammates at an impossible areas has made him one of the great midfielder in the Zone. He has a good vision, which has helped him to distribute fine passes to his teammates, he is also a good tackler and loves combating for balls when necessary.

There comes the Man himself Mohammed Sheriff, if there is any player in the zone with the ability to play in different positions then it will be Mohammed Sheriff of Steadfast Fc, the young multi talented Midfielder has been in sensational form so far, he has helped salvaged some key points for Mohammed Gargo’s side. He has the ability to play in all the defensive positions and always loves joining the attack. He has since scored four goals for his side which has helped them immensely to occupy second place after the first round, trailing leaders Berekum Arsenals with only a point.

Ronald Frimpong is undoubtedly the best signing in the second transfer window, the left winger has been in fine form since joining RTU from Nzema Kotoko. He has played five games for the pride of the north, scoring three in those games and also with a MVP award. His great stats speaks for themselves.

In attack are Africa U-20 Most valuable player, Issahaku Abdul Fatawu (Steadfast Fc) – Right forward, Kwame Frimpong – Left forward and the 2nd leading goal scorer for Zone One, Alhassan Siisu (Steadfast Fc) as Center Forward.

For Abdul Fataw Issahaku, he needs no introduction, he is just amazing and a blessing from God. Send him to Barcelona, R. Madrid, Bayern Munchen and you will see him make the starting lineup. The former Tamale Utrecht player is the most talented player in Ghana currently, he is a good dribbler and a great goal poacher. His exploits in Afcon U-20 Championship in Mauritania will ever be remembered in history, as he helped Ghana to lift the trophy and also winning the MVP of the tournament. He has since played five games for Steadfast, striking six times and providing four assist, he has also won four MVP award so far.

Kwame Frimpong of Real Tamale United has also made our list for his impact in Coach Shaibu Tanko’s team. The left forward also has been in instrumental form for the blues, though he has not been in the scoring chats, his impact in the team is more than being a scorer.
His tackles, passes delivery and his ability to take on opponents at difficult zones has made him a worry for opposition defenders.
His combination with Ronald Frimpong has been great for the northern blues.

Last to make our list for the first eleven players is Steadfast centre forward Alhassan Siisu, the forward has bagged in eight goals in eleven games for Mohammed Gargo’s side. He scored a hat trick against Kintampo FC which won him the MVP award at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium. He was able to lead the team in the absence of Fataw Issahaku, and he will be looking forward to challenge for the top scorer gong.

The Head Coach of RTU, Coach Ibrahim Shaibu Tanko, publicly known as ‘Off the Road’ is picked as the best coach in the first round of the league after producing a fantastic away records.

This was disclosed on Sunday on Suhupielli Soccer School, a popular sports Program on Suhupielli Fm. Issah Mohammed known as Rossoneri took time to explain the rational for the selection of those players.

“Trust me, this team can beat any team in the division one league across all zones. If I had my way, I would have prosed to have a game like this played at the end of the season, Northern teams select side and BA teams select side” he stated

The second round is expected to return on the 16th April 2021.
