DOL: Relentless Welbeck Takyi hunt down Tamale City and set his eyes on the top scorer gong
Bofoakwa Tano’s 20 year old goal poacher, Welbeck Takyi put on a masterclass performance against Tamale City on Wednesday as his side came from behind to earned a hard-fought 3-1 victory.
Going into yesterday’s game,the prolific striker had scored 12 accumulated goals, which had him placed second in the top scorer race.
He tored Tamale City apart with a goal and two assist in a game that could have dent their hopes of securing a promotion to the Ghana Premier League.
That goal was his 13th for the season. He is now just a goal away from matching Berekum Arsenals Ansu Kofi Patrick who has 14 goals.
Ansu Kofi Patrick first came to prominence during the first 10 games of the season.
His picture post inputs back then earned him a call up to the Black Stars during their preparations for the Afcon qualifiers double header clash against South Africa and Sao Tome.
He has since maintained that level of performances and is in a pole position to earning another call up to the senior national team or the local Black Stars U-23.
His brilliance in yesterday’s game has earned him his third MVP award of the season.
The 20 year old striker impressive run of form has his team currently occupying second on the league standings with their game against Kintampo FC yet to be decided by the GFA.
The battle for the Premiership slot has become tough in the zone, but his hot scoring form could see his side gain promotion to the Ghanaian topflight.
He is rumoured to have attracted interest from a number of European clubs for his exploits in the Ghana Division One League this season.
It won’t be surprising if what seems to be rumours finally comes to really.
Welbeck Takyi has since played 22 games for Bofoakwa this season, scoring 13 goals, provided seven assist and won three MVP awards.
Next for Welbeck Takyi and Bofoakwa Tano will be a trip away to Tamale to face fellow Premiership slot contenders Real Tamale United.
