DOL: RTU records an impressive 3-0 victory against Berekum Arsenals to top the table.

Real Tamale United today recorded a 3-0 over Berekum Arsenals at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium to climb top of the Zone one league table. They came into the game at the back of a 1-0 defeat to Mighty Royals which saw them being pushed back to fourth place, and their City rivals Tamale City occupying the third position after nine matches.

Berekum Arsenals too was impressive in the league until match day 8, when Young Apostles won 1-0 against them at the Sunyani Coronation Park to put an end to their unbeaten run. Last week they drew 1-1 against Tamale City FC at the Golden City Park.

With a chance for any of them to climb top of the table, the game was poised to be a difficult encounter, with either team needing a win to bolster their chances of qualifying for the Premiership.

The game started with Arsenals making an impressive performance in the early exchanges, but a well determined and resilient RTU wouldn’t let a goal in, it continued until the 24th minute when Baba Kushibo opened the scoring to head RTU in front. Arsenals pushed for an equalizer but another goal from Ronald Frimpong on the 29th minute, who was making his home debut dumpened the spirit of the away team.

The worst part came when a player from B. Arsenals got a red card and another one getting an injury left them with nine men, which left them with few options to operate. RTU continued the to mount pressure on them taking into consideration their two goals advantage and the numerical advantage interms of players on the field of play, but they couldn’t add a goal until the referee whistled for the end of the first half.

When playing was resumed in the second half, it was an all attacking from both sides, with Berekum Arsenals in particular trying so hard to atleast get a goal, but the resistance from the home team wouldn’t let them score.

In some few moments later, Adam Sachibu scored to put them in an undisputed position to clinch victory. That goal also saw RTU pulling down Tamale City FC to second place and climb top of the league table.

With the numerical advantage, RTU after the third goal dominated the game until the final whistle was blown.

Coach Shaibu Tanko’s side really showed a good fight, and this victory will help boost their spirit in their quest to qualify for the Premier League.

Next for RTU is a trip away to face Bofoakwa Tano who before the mid-week fixtures, were on top of the table, they were defeated Yesterday by Tamale City, Arsenals will also be playing home to welcome Paga Crocodiles Stars.
