Real Tamale United won their second successive game today at the Aliu Mahama Sports stadium in Tamale. It was in round 8 of the division one league where the two clubs met to showcase their abilities.
RTU needed a win to continue mounting pressure on Berekum Arsenals and Bofoakwa Tano who were occupying first and second position respectively before this game.
The Pride of the north has not had a convincing win since the beginning of the campaign. The Wa based club until their their last two games had not experience a defeat in the league, last week they throw away a 2-0 first half lead to loss by 2:3 in the second half against Tamale City FC, who Tomorrow will also be playing as host to the resilient Mighty Royals.
The early exchanges in the game could not produce a goal for any of the two teams, RTU were made to wait until the 27th minute when they were awarded a penalty and Mohammed Hardi Abdulai stepped in and scored. Wa Suntaa held back until the whistle was blown for the end of proceedings of the first half.
With minimal difference in goal, both teams launched an attack in search of a goal, but it was RTU who had the chance to double their lead thanks to a goal from Fawzan Alhassan Dandawa in the 61st minute of the game.
The northern blues were now assured of victory with the two goals lead, 17 minutes later after the second goal, Wa Suntaa SC pulled one goal back , which was from Amos Tang on the 78th minutes.
The goal means that the Wa boys were back in the game with a last minute opportunity to getting an equalizer, but the pride of the north were so mean of victory and fought hard to maintain their lead which, eventually helped them to win the game.
Coach Shaibu Tanko’s side will hope to increase in their scoring tally in their next game, when forward Yakubu Labandow comes back to join the attack.
Until tomorrow’s games, RTU will occupy second place on the table after eight games with 17 points, a win for Bofoakwa Tano will push them back to third position, and a big defeat for Berekum Arsenals will see RTU occupying either first or second depending on Bofoakwa Tano’s results.
