CODAK COMMUNITY LEAGUE AWARDS CEREMONY HELD
Codak Community League is a community based association of juvenile club owners in the GA-East District of the Greater Accra Region. One of the motives of this association is to organise competitions for it’s members as an avenue to develop their young talents. The 2019/2020 season came to a close on Saturday February 29th 2020 but the awards ceremony which was initially scheduled for Sunday 22nd March 2020 was postponed due to COVID~ 19.
The event which was held on Sunday October 4th 2020 saw representatives from the eight clubs who competed in the four competitions organised this season as well as invited guests grace the occasion. The competing clubs for the 2019/2020 season are: Sunshine Plus FC, Hope Soccer Academy, Glory City FC, Senior Boys FC, Dome Newcastle FC, Flamingo FC, Liverpool FC and Nayan Soccer Academy. The four competitions of the association organised for the Under 13 and Under 15 categories this season are League, Penalty League, Challenge Cup and FA cup.
At the end of the third season awards ceremony Nayan Soccer Academy swept home five trophies: FA Cup Under 13, League U15, Penalty League U15, Challenge Cup U15 and FA Cup U15; Hope Soccer Academy won the U13 league title, Sunshine Plus FC won the U13 penalty league, and Flamingo FC won the U13 challenge cup. All title winners were given a trophy for each competition won,footballs, certificates and cash prize.
Individual awards were also given for the outstanding performance of players and coaches. In the U13 category: Forson, Benjamin Adu Asare and Caleb Teye of Hope Soccer Academy claimed the best Charlesgoalkeeper, best defender and Top scorer (with 20goals in 14matches), Aikins Takyi of Sunshine Plus FC claimed the best midfielder award, Faruk Mohammad of Glory City FC was awarded most promising player, best defender Benjamin Adu Asare was named bronze player (3rd best player),Nayan Soccer Academy’s Bismark Opoku was named Silver(2nd best) player of the year as Top Scorer Caleb Tete was adjudged Gold (best) player of the season.
In the U15 awards category Joseph Wayome and Bernard Akabi of Glory City FC won the best goalkeeper and top scorer (23goals in 14matches) awards respectively, best defender award went to Andy Afful of Flamingo FC, Eric Boadu of Nayan Soccer Academy was awarded the best midfielder and overall best player, David koranteng of Hope Soccer Academy was awarded Silver player, top scorer Bernard Akabi was also awarded most promising as well as bronze player of the season.
Coaches were also not left out of the awards. In the U13 category Mr Frimpong Oliver of Nayan SA won the bronze coach of the season award,.as Mr Enoch Osei of Flamingo FC won the silver coach and Mr Hope Kemeh of Hope SA also winning the Gold coach of the season award. In the U15 category Mr Maxwell Effah of Sunshine Plus FC won the bronze coach of the year award as Mr Hope Kemeh once again claimed the silver coach of the year award and Mr David Frimpong of Nayan SA grabbing the gold coach of the season award.
The chairman Mr Ernest Osei Adade gave special awards to players who demonstrated a high level of discipline throughout the season. In his closing remarks he thanked all club owners, coaches, and players for their full participation in the association’s programmes. He also expressed gratitude to all stake holders especially Mr Jeff Williams of the Out For You Charity Foundation for sponsoring the FA Cup Competition. He also used the occasion to appeal for support material and financial towards the associations activities and hoped for greater accomplishments in the coming year.
