After a hard fought battle spanning over four months in the third tier of Ghana’s football, the northern region finally will have a representative in next seasons Zone One Division One League.
Kumbungu Bimbiem FC has defied all odds to secure qualification to the DOL. Many people wrote them off going into the Division Two Middle League, and only counted on regulars STK Stars, Sankara Nationals , Tamale Soccer Angels and Kasalgu Arrow Heads whose season was so great that they were considered favorites to qualify.
Bimbiem FC led by former Yendi Gbewaa FC Youth development Coach Sualihu Shafiu , lost their opening game in the middle league by 2-1 against Soccer Angels. But right after that defeat, the bees begun to strike, first engaging Kasalgu Arrow Heads to a 0-0 draw before subjecting Yendi Sankara Nationals to their worst ever defeat since it’s formation in 2015.
The bees continue their sparkling form against another Yendi based club by name Yendi Soccer Heroes, subjecting them also to another heavy defeat by 3-1.
They ended match day 4 on second place, trailing leaders and final game opponents STK Stars by a point, the only possible way for them to secure qualification was to win against STK Stars who will have been okay if it ended draw.
They did it in a grand style, leaving it late after 90 minutes through Abdul Rashad’s strike.
The people of Kumbungu will be super proud of this great club, it will be a special day back home and they surely will received a tumultuous welcome.
What a day to be a player, a supporter and related to Bimbiem FC. They surely are deserve champions.
