He said the team started it’s preparation for the tournament on the 16th of January, 2021. And that players were allowed to go back and play with their various clubs in the Premier League and the Division One League, before they were called back for their final preparations and then depart on Saturday.

He also mentioned that he went to Mauritania with 27 players. And that one player that was missing from the squad also was, Prince Adu of Bechem United who had an injury prior to their trip.

He said the weather there is quite different from the one in Ghana and that is too dry and the boys are trying their best to adopt to it before their Group C opener today against Tanzania.

Remember Ghana are three times Champions of the competition, winning it back in 1993, also in 1999 and the latest one was in 2009, which they won and went on to lift the U-20 World Cup in Egypt, against Brazil in the finals through a penalty shootout after a 0:0 draw.

It was the first time an African country wins the prestigious trophy.
Ghana was captained by the current Black Stars captain Andrew Dede Ayew. Coach Sellas Tetteh was on the touch line for the showdown in Egypt.

Coach Karim Zito is also optimistic the WAFU Zone B Champions will follow the footsteps of their Predecessors, to also lift the trophy in Mauritania.

Tanzanian referee Mehrez Melki will take charge of the Group C opener today.
