ATHLETICS : 2021 National Cross Country Ends in Sewfi Wiawso

The 2021 National Cross Country Competition ended in Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region of Ghana on Saturday, 20th February, 2021

About 200 athletes drawn from the 16 regions of the country took part in the 10-kilometre race which started from Ayemkrom and ended at the Glistering park in Sefwi Wiaso.

Ashanti Region’s Afful Basit beat John Kudon of Central and David Nakusi of Upper West Regions within the time of 29.44 seconds to win the men’s marathon event.

 

At the end of the competition, with 22 accumulated points Ashanti Region emerged the overall winners in men’s category.

Central Region were 2nd with 50 points and Greater Accra Region 3rd with 75 points

In women’s division, Belinda Segbebr of the Upper West Region beat Sherifatu Moro of Ashanti Region and Rosina of Eastern Region to win the women’s event

Upper West Region were adjudged the overall best region the women’s category while Ashanti Region were the runners-up. Eastern Region placed third overall

The overall winners were awarded with cash amount of Ghc 10,000 and a trophy each in both categories

Certificates of participation and cash prizes, were also given to deserving athletes.

The theme for this year’s competition is “Combating COVID-19 with Sports and Exercise”

Eastern Region will be hosting the 2022 edition of the National Cross Country Competition
