Amenyeku Afi honored her debut for Northern Ladies with a clean sheet.
The newly signed Northern Ladies goalkeeper, Amenyeku Afi made an instant heat as she honored her debut with a clean sheet against Supreme Ladies today at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
Afi was signed from Tamale Super Ladies some few days ago to provide competition with the first choice goalkeeper, Issahaku Barikisu but her distinctive records at Super Ladies meant that Northern Ladies head coach, Basiru-Deen Sumani wouldn’t waste much time in putting her on his starting team.
Coach Bash named her in his starting lineup against Supreme Ladies today in their match day six fixture. She was able to overcome all the pressure and the expectations on her, by helping her team to win 1-0 against the threatening team, Supreme Ladies.
She made two fine saves from dangerous kicks which prevented the opponents from scoring. She also made aerial save to make sure that free kicks and corner kicks were well dealt with.
The 15 years old girl was a perfect match for the game, had it not been because of her good defensive organization and her ability to come out on time to pick balls and also clear balls ahead of the Supreme Ladies attackers, the game will have been a difficult match for Northern Ladies to win. But she managed the situation as if she was already a part of the team for a very long time.
Amenyeku Afi has already won many individual successes at Super Ladies, and for her good start today if maintained is likely to get an U-17 National team call up.
Afi is expected to maintained her position at the post when they travel to Techiman to face Ampem Darkoa Ladies in the first round final match of the season on Sunday 6th, March, 2021.
