Ghana’s head coach, Otto Addo, remains committed to guiding the Black Stars to qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), despite disappointing results against Sudan.
Following a 0-0 draw and a 2-0 defeat in their recent matches, Ghana’s path to qualification appears challenging. However, Addo believes the team still has a fighting chance. In a statement to the Ghana FA media team, he emphasized that their campaign is not finished.
“It’s not over yet. Mathematically, there’s still a chance, and we will do everything in our power to keep this opportunity alive,” Addo asserted.
Reflecting on the qualifiers, Addo highlighted the necessity of winning home matches and maintaining discipline in both defense and offense. “Looking back, it’s not just about one game; it’s about our overall approach. You have to win your home games. While we had passion and discipline, we didn’t execute effectively,” he explained.
The coach also felt that Ghana deserved better outcomes, particularly in their encounters with Angola and Sudan. “We certainly deserved to win against Angola, and also the last match against Sudan,” he noted, recognizing that tactical issues played a role in the results.
As Ghana’s qualification campaign reaches a crucial juncture, the Black Stars currently sit third in Group F, five points behind second-placed Sudan and seven points behind group leaders Angola. Nevertheless, Otto Addo and his team remain focused on reversing their fortunes and keeping their AFCON hopes alive.
