As the game appeared destined for a draw, Rodrigues, coming in as a substitute, made a game-changing impact, breaking the deadlock and securing the 2-1 win.

Cape Verde took an early lead as Jameiro Monteiro capitalized on a rebound, scoring after 17 minutes. Reacting swiftly to a spill from Ghana’s goalkeeper Richard Ofori, Monteiro’s goal set the stage for a compelling contest.

Despite Cape Verde’s initial dominance, it was Ghana who posed a threat in the final third. Majeed Ashimeru’s impressive strike was disallowed for offside, leaving Ghana trailing at halftime to the delight of the Islanders.

After halftime, Chris Hughton’s team returned stronger, with Djiku scoring the equalizer from a Jordan Ayew corner. Djiku’s pivotal defensive efforts, including two goal-saving clearances, kept Ghana in contention, but a defensive lapse allowed Cape Verde to regain the lead.

In the final 10 minutes, Richard Ofori made crucial saves, denying Cape Verde, but a moment of defensive clumsiness from Ghana ultimately handed Cape Verde a 2-1 victory.

Ghana will aim to bounce back from this defeat when they face Egypt in their next game on January 18.
