Accra 2023: Mukarama Abdulai; Triumphing Amid Adversity

Mukarama Abdulai, despite her remarkable achievements, recently faced unjustified booing from a section of fans at the Cape Coast Stadium during Ghana’s first group game. This reaction contrasts sharply with her proven track record.
Mukarama’s talent shone brightly when she emerged as the third-best player at the 2018 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup and clinched the tournament’s top scorer title. However, her journey faced hurdles when injuries impacted her performance after joining Deportivo Alaves’ female team in Spain. Upon returning to Ghana for treatment, she encountered challenges that ultimately led to her departure from the Spanish club.
Undaunted by setbacks, Abdulai Mukarama joined Ghana Women’s Premier League powerhouse HASAACAS LADIES F C for the 2023/2024 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League season. Her stellar displays caught the eye, earning her a call-up to the U20 team for the #AfricanGames2023 Football Tournament under the guidance of Coach Yussif Basigi.
Despite facing criticism and insults, Basigi unwaveringly believed in Abdulai, foreseeing a resurgence. She validated his faith by delivering three crucial goals in the tournament, including the match-winner against Nigeria in the semi-finals and a decisive strike in the finals, securing Gold for Ghana.
Mukarama’s resilience and Basigi’s unwavering trust in her amidst adversity deserve commendation. Let’s also applaud the Princesses for their triumph over Nigeria’s Super Falcons.
