S/A : Maiden Savannah Region Technical Committee Meeting of PE Coordinators,Tutors, and Sports Masters held in Damongo

The maiden edition of a technical committee meeting of PE coordinators, tutors and sports masters was held at Damongo Senior High School in Damongo the Savannah Regional Capital on Tuesday, 17th August, 2021

The meeting was to deliberate on issues affecting sports development in the region amidst the corona virus pandemic

Key on the agenda was the teaching and maintenance physical education and sports facilities in the schools

There was also the formation of the Savannah Region Basic and Senior High Schools Sports Federation, and welfare issues for members discussed

Executives of the new federation are Mr Alhassan Denteh, Mr Sulemana Alhassan, Mr Sulemana Akaho Agbei, Mr Abdulai Fusheini, and Mr Abramani Abudu for the positions of Chairman/Rep, Secretary, Organizer, Welfare/Treasurer, and PRO respectively

Representing the Regional Education Director, Mr Richard Dery, Director in Charge of Planning and Statistics read the Director’s speech. He intimated Physical Education Teachers to take the teaching of the subject serious

According to Mr Francis Mumuni Mbonwura, students like physical education because it makes them active and attentive and has therefore underscore the need to maintain and teach it as it appears on the school time tables

He encouraged personal in the sports fraternity to take interest in developing themselves professionally in readiness to take over the mantle of leadership when the time is due

The Education Director pledged the Directorate’s readiness to support the federation in whatever possible means to promote and develop sports in the region

Mr Dery used the occasion on behalf of the Education Director to plead with members to appeal to their colleagues to put in more efforts in classroom delivery to improve on the abysmal performance of last year’s BECE and WASSCE examinations in the region
